Art of Elysium Benefit

June 24th: I threw on my black pants and blazer and headed over to the Art of Elysium Benefit which was hosted by Elijah Wood and Riley Keough and held at Milk Gallery.

Art of Elysium is a non profit organization founded in 1997 by Jennifer K. Howell. Art of Elysium encourages working actors, artists, and musicians to voluntarily dedicate their time and talent to children who are battling serious medical conditions. Mo cares! On a serious note, this is a great cause and an amazing organization. For more information on ways to help, click here.

I got there pretty early and was immediately taken back by the phenomenal artwork entitled “Rebel Rebel.” The work was created by two artists Mick Rock and Russell Young, two very cool old dudes, who collaborated on producing the art. “Rebel Rebel” is a fantastic collection of large scale photos of a 1970’s Iggy Pop, David Bowie, and Lou Reed; in the days of glam rock and androgyny, Rebel Rebel is rock concert photos on acid.

I walked around and tried to enjoy all of the Veev I could before the place got too packed. Veev an eco-friendly alcoholic beverage; $1 from every bottle goes to the Brazilian Rain forest. It was pretty good; a little bitter but nice when you mix it. Also available was Coole Swan, a dairy cream liqueur (Bailey’s-esque), which was served in ice shaped shot glasses.

As the night wore on I noticed a familiar face in the corner. I had to look twice to confirm that I wasn’t hallucinating; it was Danny Masterson DJing! And you will have to excuse Mo because since her high school days she has loved her some Danny Masterson. And sadly that night, Mo was reverted to being a 16 year old girl again. He looks a little different than I remember him; older with a fully grown beard…Mo usually isn’t into beards but..it’s freaking Hyde! I was able to snap some pics, including one of us, which I can’t post because Mo has “crazy fan eyes”, and no one likes that. I can say I think he rocks and I will continue to even after the day I’m arrested outside of his house in my “I Love That 70’s show” T shirt wearing my super flared jeans (circa 1995). Mo lives a sad life; please pity her.

The night wore on until I noticed a huge crowd of people getting rowdy. Which meant a celeb was near. And it was none other than Elijah Wood. That’s right the host had shown up and everyone was trying to get a picture of him. My friend Tyler was able to snap a teeny tiny picture of him, which is okay, because he’s kind of…um…err…teeny tiny?? Also notably in attendance was May Anderson, Joshua Jackson, Andrew Saffir, and Genevieve Jones.

Cheers,
Mo
