YRB How You Rock It & GQ Magazine

June 25th: I had the pleasure of attending probably one of the best parties of the year. Mo has been to a party or two and all I can say is those Grubman girls know how to throw an amazing party! That party rocked! The event was for YRB Magazine at the Red Bull space.
YRB is self described as a street based magazine with a bold against-the-grain approach and a cheeky sense of humor. It is geared towards an audience who are interested in all aspects of the urban scene including street fashion, hip-hop graffiti, extreme sports, body art, contemporary and traditional arts, music and literature. Growing in distribution and popularity, YRB is a publication for those who want to know the latest word on the streets. YRB has had its cover graced by the likes of Busta Rhymes, OutKast, Dirt McGirt, Groove Armada, Spike Lee and Alicia Keys.
Here’s a quick rundown, there was a YRB fashion shoot on one end. In the corner was a fantastic tattoo artist named Louis Andrew giving away free permanent (yes permanent!) tattoos. Talented Graffitti artist from Cap Creations created unique t-shirts, Xbox 360 Consoles were set up with Grand Theft Auto, and of course the fabulous DJ Kid Capri was on the 1’s and the 2’s.
Also noteworthy, was the presence of The Retro Kids, who rocked a late 80’s break dancer style. Wish you could have seen it! Loved it! And an appearance of Jaslene Gonzalez, winner of America’s Next Top Model. I snapped some pictures of her and I swear that girl was born to model because every picture I took was perfect. It’s as if she sensed when the flash was going to go off. Freaky!
On another note, last night I thought I would check out the GQ Magazine Jameson tasting event. The event was held at Gaslight. Pros: friendly bouncer, great meatpacking district locale, great atmosphere. Cons: very crowded and the food tasted like something you found in your freezer at 3 am after a night of partying and had no idea how long it was sitting there but decided to eat it anyway because you knew that you had to have something in your stomach.
Cheers,
Mo
