Alberta Ferretti SS’09

September 9th: As I can be disgustingly punctual, I entered Alberta Ferretti’s show at 7 on the dot. I milled around Eyebeam waiting for my plus one, while waiters served drinks and hor d’oeuvres.
Typically, shows take around 20-30 minutes to start so I wasn’t worried when my guest hadn’t arrived as punctually. At 7:08, she rang, so I walked around from the runway to get her inside. Much to my surprise, we walked back in and the models were already walking down the runway!
There no seating so I had to peer over people’s heads to see the clothes. My five feet five inches plus five inch Alberta Ferretti shoes gave me five foot ten, which helped marginally but as soon as I started appreciating the clothes, the show ended! Really, no less than five minutes after it began, the lights dimmed and the music went off.
I went “huh” and scrunched my face. My friend and I surmised there just had to be more. Sure enough, the music started playing again, and models walked back out after this ten minute break. This time I was right next to the catwalk and could examine this round in detail. Blackberry in hand, I was poised to take furiously detailed notes, when I thought that some of the outfits looked suspiciously familiar. The music was the same and the models never paused in their walk to pose, just turned around when they hit the front of the catwalk (usually models pose for the cameras). It ended just as quickly as the first time.
I inquired with a PR rep who told me there were four rounds. I asked if the outfits were the same each time, and she said that she believed they were different sets. Perplexed, I walked back to the catwalk to watch the third round. Same thing. This time I was 100% positive that it was the same exact outfits, the same exact models in the same exact order.
“What does it mean?” I whispered to my friend. I supposed it was to mimic a surreal movie loop, which would to compliment the airy, hippie Joan of Arc clothes. Or maybe it was a joke! We debated whether to exit after the third round but I stayed put in case there was some sort of consolation prize for lasting after all four rounds. Or at least a wave and bow from the designer after.
Nope. Same fourth round. Nothing different. Nothing to mark the end. I filed out with the majority of the crowd and spotted several of the models also leaving from a back door. So it was definitely over.
Wonder what it all meant?

P.S. The title pic has my two favorite outfits.
