September 10th: After coming from the Ultimat Vodka Launch, I headed to Mansion for the second time this week for another quirky, avant-garde fashion show. As seen on MTV, New York Couture opened up their show with energetic performances by The Chimney Climbers and Neon Hitch, emcees Monique Allen and Mama Contessa, and awesome mixes by DJ Benny Blanco.
Neon Hitch came out with her red hair in pigtails that reached the floor, and she had so much energy that you couldn’t help but be seduced by her performance and cute short skirts. Yowza! She got the crowd energized right before the show, and after Mama Contessa introduced the models, the audience was ready to go!
The outfits were bold and brazen, cute and edgy, charming and rebellious, all colorful and glitter. Tops and bikinis featured cat, bunny, and other cute animal faces, as well as a dress with a snake as ruffles. Overtly dramatic ruffles, tiers, and hoop skirts and dresses were the biggest hits of all. The tousled hair of the models gave them a raw, animalistic look as they power-strutted down the runway. Described as “a harmonious blend of punk-rock cool, ultra-glam and prima ballerina,” the collections are all limited edition, one-of-a-kind pieces that “‘bring out the rock-goddess and fairy princess in every wear.” Definitely a sense of style that will turn heads and get attention!
The leopard print swag bag for guests lucky enough to snag one included gifts from a few of their sponsors: natural, oraganic, eco-friendly lip blam by Shelissa; shimmer powder by Shiny Mama Beauty and Glamour Addict; 100% pure uncut mineral silica ‘powder’ by Make Up For Ever (see photo); City Shuffle card deck, each card a $10 gift certificate to a featured NY bar; and my personal favorite (!!), a bullet vibrator by Babeland. [To get your own or other goodies from Babeland for 10% off, use the online coupon code: 20243 by 1/1/2009. Thank me later.]
Yours,
Von
