December 9th: With the holiday season of indulgences and feasting comes also feelings of benevolent giving and charity. Lord & Taylor appeased our sense of guilt of shopping by allowing us to shop with a cause in mind.
Y.E.S!, Young Executives for Success, is a volunteer program that gives its members mentoring, networking, and fund raising opportunities to help further the program of Dress for Success. At this Holiday Soiree on the 3rd floor of the 5th Avenue store, guests learned about the mission of the cause while enjoying champagne, munching on hor d’oeuvres, and browsing through the beautiful gowns of the designer collections.
Dress for Success is committed to helping disadvantage women get back on their feet by providing a network of support, professional attire, and career development skills for them pursue a new future. Numerous disadvantaged women may not have the resources to find the proper attire to even start interviewing.
Dress for Success not only arms them with their first suit, but they provide special classes and individual mentoring assistance for women seeking to get back into the workforce or looking to advancing their careers. I had the opportunity to volunteer for this program with their clothing drive in the past and truly admire the goals and effort this program provides to help those less fortunate.
It’s expected to do some damage to your credit card around the holidays with presents for your loved ones and yourself. In addition to your families, think kindly of those who may have it more difficult and give to a cause you believe in.
