Maxie’s Bar and Grill One Year Anniversary

January 22nd: Wow. It’s been ages since there has been a great party. And by ages, I mean like 2 months or maybe less. Since the end of the holiday season, the spectacular invites haven’t been piling in as I am sure our readers have noticed. Maybe it’s our sickly economy that is convincing companies that they can’t afford the coveted open bar. Whatever it is, I hope it stops because partying is what we do best here at SS! What do you get when you combine unlimited sliders, a balloon artist, American Idol’s Constantine Maroulis and DJ Berrie? A really great party!

Expecting a lively scene, we walked into the restaurant and saw… people quietly eating dinner! Assuming everyone was there for the party and the food was complementary, we almost grabbed some biscuits off of someone’s table, but luckily we were sober enough (barely) to ask the hostess what was going on. It turns out we had walked into Maxie’s sister restaurant, Angelo and Maxie’s Steakhouse. Oops!

We ran around the corner to Maxie’s Bar and Grill and found what we were looking for. The adorable DJ Berrie had the place rocking, the crowd was manageable, and the food was tasty and plentiful. The DJ was so attractive he prompted Rachel to tell Mo that if she were to have a threesome, it would be with DJ Sky Nellor and DJ Berrie. DJ-tastic!

First, birthdays are usually filled with crying children with cake all over their faces, scary clowns and exasperated parents hoping to get an hour or two away from their kids. Maxie’s first birthday party was nothing like that. Waiters passed around tons of sliders, coconut shrimp with thai-chili dipping sauce, mushrooms stuffed with goat cheese, crab cakes with remoulade sauce, and…fried chocolate chip cookie dough! If that wasn’t enough, a woman wearing very little clothing walked around with a tray of candy for the sweet-tooths in the house. Also, there was an open bar and most one-year-olds don’t get that kind of treatment as pink lemonade martinis were the specialty cocktail at the bar.

And what 1st birthday celebration would be complete without a balloon artist? She was quite skilled and made fabulous balloon hats, corsages, flowers, and bowties for the excited partygoers. Dani opted for an accessory and the balloon artist made a flower for her hair. Very adorable. It was like being a kid again! Well, minus the rum concoctions being sipped as we danced to the best of the 80’s.

We didn’t think it was going to happen, seeing as how the party scene has slowed down, but there was an outstanding party last night. So does this mean that we have more to look forward to? Cross your fingers, kiddies!

Aside from the possibly homeless woman who somehow slipped past the door and tried to kick Rachel and Courtney out of the bathroom, a great time was had by all. Maxie’s has a laid back but classy atmosphere, and it’s a great spot to enjoy burgers with friends or watch a game on one of their many flat screen TVs.

Football fans: Maxie’s is hosting a $35/person Super Bowl Special with all you can eat sliders, wings, and pitchers of beer. Call for reservations.

Happy Birthday, Maxie’s!
