G-Star Raw Fall 2009 Fashion Show

February 17th: I must mention a very interesting and absolutely fantastic show I attended last night, and I would of course be referring to G-Star. I have always had images in my head of G-Star being very urban, young, and as “street wear.” However I was thoroughly surprised and impressed by last night’s runway show. The show took place outside of the Tents at the Hammerstein Ballroom on 34th st. I arrived checked in and as I made my way to my seat I noticed that towards the right section in the front row cameras were going off like crazy, which can only mean one thing… there is a celebrity in the house!

I made my way closer, because Mo is nosy and has little or absolutely no shame and doesn’t really care what people think about her, and to my surprise it was Mischa Barton sporting a black hat and white ruffled shirt. Sitting close by Mischa was one of my faves Natasha Bedingfield. Also in attendance was Tyson Beckford another fave, and Zoe Saldana.

Mo is not an expert on fashion by any means, however I have to say that i was pleasantly surprised by the collection and mostly by the show. The show began with the light’s dimming as the sound of a single piano player echoed throughout the venue. Through an almost sheer curtain you could catch a glimpse of the pianist as the models made their way down the catwalk. Unlike other shows this one seemed to be telling a story. the clothing was very upscale with many denim and leather pieces. The line was urban with high roller swagger.

Several models took the runway, and as they made their way back stage the stood next to the pianist for a few moments before disappearing from behind the curtain. then the music stopped, and out came Benicio Del Toro (I was in disbelief! It was surreal!). He poetically read  Joy Division’s “Candidate,” and left the stage. Then the models came out for their final walk. The show was absolutely perfect and very original! And so was the after party at Butter.

Cheers,

Mo
