Charity Water at Chelsea Market

March 10th: It was one of those rare and very fabulous events that had me recovering the entire following day. Charity Water, one of my favorite organizations, shut down the Chelsea Market to throw a bash to raise money for finding a way to bring fresh water solutions to developing nations. It was also a cocktail reception to launch the 3-month-long photographic exhibition at Chelsea Market. Most of us have never really been thirsty. We’ve never had to leave our houses and walk 5 miles to fetch water. We simply turn on the tap, and water comes out. Clean. Yet more than 1.1 billion people on the planet don’t have clean water. In the past two years Charity Water has funded over 1,247 water projects in Bangladesh, the Central African Republic, Cote D’ivoire, Ethiopia, Honduras, and other regions and they can use your help.
For anyone who has ever been to the Chelsea Market you know that it is huge spanning almost entirely over 15th and 16th streets and goes from 9th to 10th avenue-and yes ladies and gentleman Charity Water took over the entire venue! And aside from the usual beautiful crowd that I usually see out at these charity events I was shocked to turn around and see Olympic figure skater and former bad girl Oksana Baiul (who looked a mess).
Although the event was scheduled to go until midnight we were there until the wee hours of the night dancing to the tunes of the Kin, and Rob Murat, and a band who’s name I sadly don’t recall (however according to a friend they had me “dancing like a groupie”). There were several bars set up along the market serving up wine and specialty cocktails by renowned mixologist Alex Ott. And I am not sure if it was the booze, but I had the most amazing gelato by L’Arte Del Gelato (sold right in Chelsea Market).
