Independent film, The Last International Playboy premiered June 10th at AMC EMPIRE 25. It is a light-hearted drama about a New York City playboy that after discovering that his childhood love is engaged to another man begins to self-medicate with alcohol, women and other bad behavior and in the end he is steered off of the road of destruction by his best friends. The main character Jack Frost, played by Roswell’s Jason Behr, was the least interesting, but fortunately the supporting cast made up for the short coming. My character is Sophie (India Ennega), Jack’s lonely eleven year old neighbor that is wise beyond her years and whose sweet voice and adorable smile made me instantly fall in love with her on screen.
Another favorite character was Scotch on the rocks (Mike Landry), an overweight, socially inept jerk that delivered much of the humor in the film. I was surprised by how small Lydia Hearst’s role is in the film. With all the ads plastered alongside of New York City buses of her in lingerie, I assumed that she was more of a lead. But she only appears nude, in a badly done sex scene. It was brief and thank goodness for that. However she did look quite phenomenal at the premiere, wearing a gold jewel encrusted Zac Posen mini. Lily Donaldson, one of my favorite models, has an even smaller role in the film, so small that unless you received the press kit, you would have never known that she was in it. The movie worked perfectly with my attention span lasting only a little over an hour.
At the film’s end I exited the theater and was escorted by a Latin themed party bus to the after-party, which was held at Hudson Terrace. We were given gold and silver sparkled hats and masks which no one wore. The driver sported a sombrero and greeted me en espanol while blasting salsa and meringue from the speakers. Everyone was cheering and whistling. When Michael Jackson’s Billy Jean was played, one gentleman, who obviously had been practicing this routine for quite some time, dared to show everyone his best impersonation of the king of pop complete with the moon walk, knee twist and crotch grab.
When we finally arrived at the venue, bombarding the door men, we were given purple wristbands and hopped into the elevator up to the outdoor terrace. The space was quite beautiful and offered incredible views of the water, historic Intrepid and New Jersey. It was obvious that the tiny bottle of Jack Daniels from the goody bag wasn’t enough to satisfy everyone’s liquor craving because the bar was immediately jam packed. People were having a great time, chatting and mingling. I didn’t see too much dancing going on.
Overall, I really enjoyed the film, the after- party and especially the bus. It was an awesome night.
