ÍS Vodka

iS vodka pronounced (ice vodka) held a launch event at STK earlier this week and it is definitely worth trying. It’s a moderately priced vodka with the taste of an expensive brand. It is made from the icy cool Icelandic water (where it’s name is derived from) which serves as its main ingredient (60% by volume). This ingredient originates from a part of Eastern Iceland known as “Beautiful Valley” home to one of the largest glaciers on earth. It’s taste can also be attributed to the fact that is is distilled seven times.
I was excited to check out the event since STK is a great space (located just above Tenjune) with great food, and fantastic decor. However, I entered the event and was surprised to see that it was held in a teeny space surrounding the bar! The PR girl checked off names as people made their way into this tight and almost claustrophobic area. They had specialty cocktails set up along the bar the drinks including the “iS Mojito” which was my least favorite due to it’s almost bitter and flavorless taste. However, I did enjoy fruitier drinks like the “Pink iSicle” (made from iS Vodka, Alize, Pinapple Juice, and Coconut).
Waiters somehow managed to make their way through the crowed and serve up signature STK hors d’oeuvres like STK’s tuna tartare, lil big mac’s, and wagyu beef carpaccio. As the night went one containing everyone in that small space became pointless with people spilling out into the couches by the fireplace, and around the sides of the roped off area (you can’t keep party people cooped up! It doesn’t work!). I am also pretty sure I saw random people who may have been dining waltz up into the event and grab a glass of iS at the bar.
However aside from the space situation I did like iS vodka. I found the drink to be very smooth and I would even say that it’s a premium vodka. I also liked the bottle design which is clear and kind of looks like it is enclosed in an Icelandic icicle . Due to the fact that the vodka is new launching only last year it is out with limited availability. I wouldn’t mind trying it again..if I can find it!
Cheers,
Mo
