Sam Fine’s “The Basics of Beauty” DVD Launch Party

INVITE

I had the pleasure of attending the Same Fine makeup dvd launch at the Warren Tricomi Salon at the Plaza Hotel on June 18th.  I wasn’t exactly sure of what I was getting myself into but was blown away as I entered the high end salon.  Everyone looked as though they were preparing for a professional photo shoot with flawless hair and makeup.  I hadn’t seen so many pictures of perfection in one room in my life.  As usual the bar was crowded as people requested their specialty Nuvo cocktails.  I opted to have mine straight up on the rocks and was surprised by how disgusting it was.  How could something so pretty in color be so gross?

The DVD features three individual step-by-step makeovers that address a variety of beauty challenges. From creating a natural look to a trend-inspired one, Fine highlights the type of products and application methods required to recreate each look. The DVD also includes special features that offer a glimpse into Fine’s fast-paced professional life, such as behind-the-scenes footage of Fine at work with star client, Iman and a Q&A session in which he provides answers to some of the most frequently asked questions.

I proceeded to walk around hopeful that they were giving away free haircuts or makeovers but was disappointed.  I only ran into people giving air kisses and acting happy to see one another.  Most of the women tried to stay as still as possible as not to sweat out their hairdos or cause their mascara to run.  Celebs and well known personalities were sprinkled throughout the salon including songstress Deborah Cox, famed Drag queen Ru Paul, runway model Arlenis, Project Runway Season 6 finalist Korto, the always stunning and current Ugly Betty star Vanessa Williams, and fashion extraordinaire Lloyd Boston.  The salon, however beautiful, was incredibly too small and too poorly ventilated to house so many people.

A tiny amount of photographers flanked the red carpet in the spectacular marble lobby.  And as I was leaving, I was able to get a glimpse of the unabashedly tacky Wendy Williams in all of her glory.  She was no where near camera shy and was soaking up all of the attention.  I always thought she was a mess and this event confirmed by opinion.

I held out for as long as I could but I unfortunately did not get the pleasure of seeing the ageless and always stunning Iman.  But the amount of beauty and coolness that event embodied definitely made up for it.

When you go to these events that you review, do you post about them first so we can know about them and go also? I see the list with upcoming events, but the ones you review arent on that.
Either way, keep it up :)
