Marie Claire’s Redlight Children Fundraiser

The blitz of rain couldn’t keep the crowd away from Marie Claire’s benefit for Redlight Children Wednesday night. Suits, skirts and heels decorated every corner of Le Poisson Rouge as young professionals and the socially inclined donned umbrellas and attitude as they made their way to the East Village.
From the haze of red lights to the rhythmic sound of the band, the evening took on a sultry façade; one only mimicked by the beautiful crowd that filled the room. Between sipping and swaying, party-goers mingled through the masses, stopping just long enough to pose for pictures and enter Marie Claire’s raffle which included the likes of Michelle Vale bags, Jewelry by Lushkara and luxurious spa packages. While the drinks, dancing and delicious desserts by Tawny Ong were a highlight of the night, guests never forgot the true reason for the evening; to raise awareness for Redlight Children.
A global human rights initiative aimed at eradicating the demand for child sexual exploitation and human trafficking, RedLight Children was founded in 2002 by Guy Jacobson, president of Priority Films. When Jacobson visited Cambodia a few years ago, he saw first hand the devastation and destruction caused by this growing problem. With passion and dedication, Jacobson and his team have devoted much to not only draw attention to this global issue, but also, to create ways to ‘expose, fight and end’ child exploitation.
It’s because of his mission and fervor that guests gave Jacobson a hearty applause as he was introduced Wednesday night. It was also his dedication that brought out an array of musicians eager to donate their time and talent to benefit the organization. From famed violinist, Itai Shapiro, to the fresh sounds of TAB the band, an eclectic mix of music was heard at the event from beginning to end.
Both chic and charitable, Marie Claire’s benefit for RedLight Children was a grand success that blended the best of Manhattan; its inspiring people and its philanthropic heart.
