Catching up with reviews I must mention an event that took place a little before the holiday weekend. On July 2nd the official wrap party for the film “Trophy Kids” was held at the Meatpacking District club Kiss & Fly. Umm what exactly is a “Trohphy kid”? Well according to an article by the Wall Stree Journal a Trophy Kid is “the millennial generation. Born between 1980 and 2001, the millennials were coddled by their parents and nurtured with a strong sense of entitlement.” “Where do such feelings come from? Blame it on doting parents, teachers and coaches. Millennials are truly “trophy kids,” the pride and joy of their parents. The millennials were lavishly praised and often received trophies when they excelled, and sometimes when they didn’t, to avoid damaging their self-esteem. They and their parents have placed a high premium on success.” Perhaps you are a trophy kid.

Trophy Kids the movie is about a celebrity hungry wealth craving  twenty-something Manhattan playboy who devises a film based on his party-boy, club-going lifestyle, and hires a self-destructive aspiring playwright to ghost the feature script.  As the mismatched pair struggles to complete the script and get a handle on their misdirected lives, they reveal the sometimes comedic, sometimes tragic behaviors of ‘Generation Y’- a generation taught to believe each was incomparably special and messianically gifted.  Though they begin to vie for the affections of the same girl, and their chance at success and happiness threatens to crumble, they ultimately each find their own, unique life truths.  Told with a young, fresh perspective and through a blend of alternating realities, humor and drama, is Generation Y’s Swingers-meets-Goodwill Hunting.

The event wasn’t very packed which was nice. Most of the film’s stars (who you may or may not be familiar with..for Mo it’s the latter) including, Ryan Eggold,David Gallagher (son from 7th Heaven..remember that show? He dated Megan Fox!), Tahyna Tozzi, Nathan Lee Graham, Tania Raymonde, and Tibor Feldman. The real star of the event (and although I may not be the biggest fan of children) was the little boy who spent most of the night running back and forth across the dance floor.  The event seemed empty for most of the night, and then thankfully around 10pm a dance off broke out! And who doesn’t love a dance off? Ok maybe it was a little cheesy , but it definitely brought some life to the party. All I can say that it was another fun event.

Cheers,

Mo
