When you enter an event and you are scanned with a metal detector you know you are in for a good time. No I did not go to The Source Awards! Last night Casio held an event at Cipriani’s Wall street for the “2009 G-Shock Shock the World Tour”. The night included music by DJ Enuff, and a special musical performance by the “Louis Vuitton Don” aka Kanye West. The scene outside the event was a little chaotic with people standing across the street attempting to get a glimpse of Kanye, celebs, or perhaps just trying to figure out what exactly was taking place. People seemed to be taking pictures of the outside area for no apparent reason..there weren’t any celebs, or VIPs outside, just random partygoers checking in. Once inside and past the security check in I was greeted by smiling Casio employees. Naturally my first stop was the bar to pick up one of Cipriani’s delicious Bellinis.

After a few rounds around the venue and chatting with guests I realized it was nearly time for Kanye to take the stage so I decided to get myself a good spot close to the stage. Noticeably close by in the crowd was Alan Cumming chatting with two tall attractive gentlemen, then I spotted Russell Simmons slip backstage. Also rumored to be backstage was Jay Z, Spike Lee, Fabulous, and Erykah Badu. Kanye was scheduled to take the stage at 9:15. Most of the guests including myself didn’t really seem to care about the delay, however for some there was a little tension in the air. Also noticeably in the air was some not so not so wacky and very wacky tobacky…could this have something to do with his delay? 10:00 pm rolled around and no sign of Kanye. I received a text from a friend who said Diddy and Fat Joe were at the Cadillac Party at the Classic Car Club in Soho and it was great.  I began to wonder if I was at the wrong event. Finally somewhere around 10:15 Kanye took the stage and my reservations were put to rest.

He gave an amazing performance that included songs like “Robocop”, “Love Lock down”, and “Nightmares”. He even turned around during a portion of his performance and shook his..umm..assets? Which gave everyone a look at his black underwear, so I guess it’s briefs for him. Hi girlfriend Amber Rose stood on the side of the stage and watched the performance surrounded by bodyguards. She watched him intensely and gave off a look that said she would pretty much stab a bitch who tried to touch her man. I became somewhat distracted by the uber fan next to meet who got so into the performance he seemed to be throwing up gang signs. Kanye went into a freestyle where he talked about how he is being sued for $100,000 for assaulting a camera man. He talked about how back in the day his father was a photographer because he had talent and would sit in a darkroom and develop pictures. He said these days everything is digital and no one really needs talent to be a photographer and pretty much anyone can do it (clearly he has never seen Mo’s pictures). He also said Chris Rock says fame is like being a really attractive person, but he thinks fame is more like being a really obese person.

After his performance everyone seemed to clear out. I was able to get another Bellini and decided ot head out. I noticed Anthony Anderson trying to mac on girls straggling out and headed for the door. Guests were given a gift bag that included a catalog, and a little plastic cartoon character (there is a 100% chance I will be throwing it out), it was a fun night out on the town!

Cheers,

Mo
