It is that time of year: Art Basel is around the corner. And here at SS we love Art!
Art is a forum for safe expression, communication, exploration, imagination, and cultural and historical understanding. Thankfully. organizations like Artists in Auction have found a way to bring together private sellers and talented artists through an online platform. Talented artists have an opportunity to showcase their work which includes a wide array of media like photography, painting, drawing, and sculpture.
Artists in Auction was created by Leslie Chasen and Cheryl Peress. And through their online auction which begins on Saturday December 5th you can browse through an extensive catalog and bid on affordable pieces yourself.
To celebrate the auction, Absolut Vodka sponsored a party at a private Tribeca loft. The event was packed and was attended by art lovers and party enthusiasts. Attendees were even given the chance to purchase pieces on the spot. Featuring work were by: Mike Lindwasser, R. Gene Barbera, Alex White-Mazzarella, Zeke Berman, Tom Smith, Dulcie Dee, Marilyn Weiss, EGSilberman, Robin Antar, Joni Diskint, and Sean Parrott.
I arrived at the venue at 6:50 p.m. and walked into a packed event (which was scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.) and was pleasantly surprised by how packed it was. The venue, located on Morton street featured beautiful panoramic views of the Hudson. Sharply dressed waiters served up delicious Absolut cocktails, wine, and light hors d’oeuvres. Partygoers were enthusiastic and seemed to be very interested in the work created by these up and coming talented artists. There were art lovers of all ages in the crowd including the infamous party crasher, “Shaggy.”
The night was extra festive due to a live musical performance, which helped guests get into a festive mood. Some of the work created by artists participating in the auction adorned the walls and could be bid on early. Many guests purchased work at the event, however several are still available so be sure to place your bid on December 5th. Perhaps it could be a nice holiday gift. Show your classy side. Check out the auction website here. Happy bidding!
Cheers,
Mo
Get to know some of the Artists:
“Galactic Truck” By Michael Lindwasser. His approach combines extreme angles and long exposures, and creates a unique and eye-catching genre of work. The lengthy exposures he takes imbue his photographs with the sharp, vibrant colors of daytime despite the fact that the images were shot in the middle of the night. By emphasizing geometry and bringing the ordinary into the abstract, he elevates commonplace subjects into something special. His most recent show takes him to the Ishida Taiseisha Gallery in Kyoto, Japan. More Information here
“Zed” by Roshan Houshmand. Iranian/American artist, Roshan Houshmand was born in 1961. Her works are predominantly inspired by particle trails from bubble chambers. Each painting is an “event” resulting from change in the inherent nature of the matter, the energy and the process itself. More information Here
“Competition of Forms 2″ by Robin Antar. Bronze sculpture. Measures 16″x12″x4″. Base included. Signed, #4 in a series of 12 by artist. Robin Antar’s passion as a sculptor can be described as “realism in stone.” All her work involves a technique that captures common, everyday items, first replicated on a real life-scale in stone with meticulous detail, then customized by incorporating accompanying parts with stains, paints, plastics and gold leaf.
