Joyride Truck Launch
Filed under Food & Beverage, Review
It was a hot, steamy night on Sunday, and if you had found yourself deep within the underbelly of Long Island City, the 7 train rumbling overhead, you would have been compelled to follow the sounds of merriment, music, and a soft glowing light spilling out onto the street. All of this would have lead you to the courtyard of what’s known as the Secret Theatre. And all of this: The music, the glowing light–and definitely the merriment–was pouring out of Joyride: a frozen yogurt, Stumptown coffee-dispensing truck like nothing NYC has seen (and we’ve seen a lot).
Started by a trio of young visionaries, two former PhD candidates and a university professional (caffeined up, perhaps), who left their illustrious day jobs to devote themselves nobly to giving New Yorkers what they love: Frozen Yogurt (organic, all natural, and very delicious) and a nice caffeinated buzz. Not only can you get locally roasted Stumptown coffee (as well as espresso drinks and the like) but the real kicker is the debut of NYC’s first ever caffeinated froyo. Oh you heard me!
This particularly hot Sunday night, Joyride was really feeling the love, as fans of the newborn company, gathered to celebrate its launch. Serving up copious amounts of coffee and yogurt to the eagerly awaiting crowds, the Joyride team smiled and glowed like new parents. I was lucky enough (and gluttonous enough) to get 2 servings of the frozen treat, piled high with the likes of organic fruits (golden kiwi won my personal blue ribbon) as well as more decadent toppings like chocolate chips, crushed cookies, and some kind of dark chocolate crunchy thing, as yet unnamed, that seemed to make everyone very happy. Though there’s no difference (that I could discern) between the opiate and the upper (I am kidding–though froyo is like a drug to some people–let’s be real), it’s an odd kind of thrill to know you can now get more perks than just probiotics.
