New York Film Exposure Network for Charity:Water

There’s nothing better than a cool party locale to get you motivated for a night on the town in the heat of summer.  Covet Lounge in midtown east was the destination du jour for New York Film Exposure Network’s latest event, benefiting Charity: Water.

Just a few short blocks away from my day job, this ‘hot child in the city’ was ready for some adult libations after work, so I made my way past the velvet ropes and marched straight to the lounge.  OK, so their “one hour open bar” was really only complimentary tequila cocktails, courtesy of Given Liqueur….but who am I to complain?  Discovering a second bar tucked away in the back of the room, I came in for a landing on one of the sleek chaise lounges and had a chance to survey the room.  What a crowd!

The invitation touted attendees from the film, fashion, and entertainment industry…but really, when tickets were being sold to the public for $25, it was truly a mixed scene.  Dim lighting, mellow music and the wafting smell of burning incense teased everyone’s senses and had couples canoodling in the dark corners of the lounge.

After chatting it up with some fun aspiring actors and film producers it was time for the main event.  NYFEN featured the 15-minute film titled Heaven Is Waiting, by Writer-Director Shlomi Ben Yair. Heaven Is Waiting is now an Oscar qualifier and has received numerous nominations including Best Short at the 2010 Milan International Film Festival, and 2010 Presenter Short Film Corner Festival De Cannes.  Not too shabby!

The film brings awareness to the crisis that many underdeveloped nations currently face due to unsafe water. Lack of basic sanitation causes 80% of disease and kills more people every year than all forms of violence, including war.  Bet you didn’t know that either?

Other event sponsors included The New York Press, The Blaq Group, POSHGLAM, ProductionHUB, Isaiah Frazier Designs, and M4MU.  EO Products provided samples of their hand sanitizer spray, organic shaving cream, and French lavender hand lotion in the petite gift bags on the way out the door.

Another fun night in the city that never sleeps….see you out and about!

XOXO,
