Inked Magazine: January Issue Party at Stash

Inked Magazine feted their January issue on Monday, January 9 with a packed out party featuring DJ Martial and complimentary beverages by Ultimat Vodka and Bomb Lager.

Upon arriving, there had to be at least 75 people waiting outside on the freezing cold sidewalk.  Noticing a bevy of scantily clad girls and drooling guys giving pleading looks to the giant bouncer behind the velvet rope, I made my way past the press gal with the clipboard and descended the stairs feeling smug in avoiding the cluster#$%* at the door.  But ohhhh, I was in for a surprise……

If you haven’t been to Stash yet, this was a great chance to see just how hidden and intimate the venue is.  Tucked away downstairs from The Darby and Snap, the diminutive lounge was not much bigger than my apartment and was attempting to cram about 200 people inside for this shindig.

The elbow throwing and shoving required to get a drink at the bar proved to be too much effort, so I happily accepted what I thought was an energy drink from someone at a private table.  After taking a sip of the complimentary Bomb product that was being passed out that evening, I realized that it was actually a beer – and NOT even a good one.  In fact, I thought I might have been poisoned.  Sorry Bomb… at least the graphics on your can look cool!

Inked Mag’s January cover girl and Quebecois songstress Coeur de Pirate played hostess of the evening, posing for pics with all of her tattooed friends and fans.  Real name Beatrice Martin, the young French Canadian pursued her music career after going through a bad breakup where her ex-boyfriend proceeded to tell her she would never amount to anything.

Taking that as a challenge, she adopted the monikor Coeur de Pirate (meaning heart of a pirate) and forged ahead to make a name for herself in the industry.  She has a tattoo for each of the significant people in her life, along with animals like a bunny and a deer, that help make up her two sleeves of ink.

Look for Coeur de Pirate’s new album Blonde in stores and check out her January cover for Inked Magazine this month on newsstands.

Happy New Year!
