Academy Award Winner Melissa Leo To Open Meet The Oscars Event With Ribbon-cutting Ceremony At Grand Central Terminal

WHAT: Oscar fans in New York will be the first to see the actual statuettes that will be presented to the Best Actor and Best Actress winners at the 84th Academy Awards on Sunday, Feb. 26. The Best Actor Oscar awarded to Michael Douglas in 1987 for “Wall Street” also will be on view. The statuettes are part of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ “Meet the Oscars, Grand Central” event at Vanderbilt Hall in Grand Central Terminal. The exhibition opens Wednesday, Feb. 22, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the Academy. Admission is free and open to the public at the following times: Wednesday, Feb. 22, 10 a.m. – 7 p.m., and Thursday-Sunday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.

“Meet the Oscars, Grand Central” gives movie fans the opportunity to have their photos taken holding an actual Oscar statuette. In addition, the exhibition features a display of Oscars in various stages of completion, as manufactured by R.S. Owens & Company in Chicago.
Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements in 2011 will be presented on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center, and televised live on the ABC Television Network.
