George Eastman House Gala Benefit in New York City

George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film returns to New York City this fall for its inaugural benefit gala. The event, “Celebrating Light and Motion,” will take place Monday, Oct. 29 at Three Sixty° in Tribeca. Highlights of the event include awards for emerging and established artists in photography and motion pictures. The honorary chairs of the gala are Tina Barney, Ken Burns, Philip Kaufman, and Martin Scorsese, who all have collections preserved in the vaults at Eastman House.

Eastman House will be honoring those who have made long-standing critical contributions to the worlds of film and photography, and also highlight the accomplishments of rising stars who are changing the face of photography and motion pictures. The 2012 recipients will be:

Emerging Icon in Photography Jeff Chien-Hsing Liao

Emerging Icons in Film Joshua and Ben Safdie

Lifetime Achievement in Photography Howard Greenberg

Lifetime Achievement in Motion Pictures Bruce Goldstein

The Light and Motion Award Carole and Howard Tanenbaum

In addition to the gala, Eastman House is represented in New York City this fall via its collections, with photographs on view at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Grand Central Terminal plus screenings at Film Forum and Museum of the Moving Image. Also, graduates of Eastman House’s schools of photo and film preservation work in most every major museum and archive in New York City.

Cocktails will begin at 7 p.m. followed by dinner and awards at 8 p.m.

The suggested attire is black and white.
