The Curry Club Debut at Jones Wood Foundry
The Curry Club, dedicated to the exploration of the myriad iterations of the pungently spiced dish, will debut at Jones Wood Foundry, Monday, Nov. 5. Jason Hicks, chef/ co-owner of the Upper East Side food driven pub, and Saira Malhotra, food writer and rising star on the Indian food scene, will partner to present New York City a uniquely British experience each Monday night in November with the presentation of a different curry (a.k.a. exceedingly popular British pub staple), complete with intriguing complementary condiments and Indian breads for $23 – the likes of Lamb Bhuna, pine nut pilaf, Parmesan parantha or Goan Shrimp, saffron pilaf, sliced baguette, mango salsa.
These weekly Curry Club presentations at Jones Wood Foundry (offered in addition to its regular a la carte menu) will showcase one of the first “Anglo-Indian” collaborations at a British pub outside of the U.K. That of Hicks and Malhotra, who developed the recipes, melding their cultural and technique experience to yield curries with a decided difference, incorporating British accents in classic Indian dishes.
To salute the archetypal duo of curry and beer, Jones Wood Foundry’s already extensive selection of beers will be augmented by a variety of Indian brews. Wine pairing possibilities, a more controversial choice of beverage with curry, will also be offered courtesy of the addition of several Indian wines to the pub’s list for The Curry Club evenings.
The Curry Club will convene November 5, 12, 19 and 26 with the evening’s featured $23 curry, along with the special Indian beers and wines, throughout Jones Wood Foundry’s normal dinner service, 6:00 to 11:00 p.m. Jones Wood Foundry is located at 401 E. 76th Street, between 1st and York.
