“A pinnacle of New York’s social history,” the original ball was the glorious 1966 creation of already-infamous writer Truman Capote. Royalty and Hollywood idols, authors and political powerhouses filled the imposing ballroom in strict shades of black and white, masked and myaccent, make it minimal and red. Masks preferred but not required. Dress code more relaxed after 2am.
