The King and Prince Resort St. Simons Island- Georgia’s Secret Treasure
When you think of beautiful (non crowded) beaches, palm trees, fun activities, and a close and very quick vacation consider St. Simons Island in Georgia. Yes Georgia! St. Simons Island is part of Georgia’s famed Golden Isles, it is a seaside setting mixed with a little southern hospitality. And on the island is a jewel called The King and Prince Resort.
The King and Prince Resort is part of the Historic Hotels of America, and opened as a seaside dance club in 1935. Six years later, on July 2, 1941, the main hotel building opened to the public as a hotel. During World War II, the hotel served as a naval coast-watching and training facility, reopening in 1947 to resume its popularity as a favorite island resort with its gracious Mediterranean architecture. Throughout the many changes over our 76 years of service, one thing has remained the same: they strive to provide their guests with superior service, outstanding accommodations, and unrivaled Southern hospitality. And, indeed they do!
The King and Prince offers a wonderful choice of gracious guest accommodations, in many distinctive settings, including ocean front and resort view guest rooms, seaside cabanas, luxurious two- and three-bedroom beach villas, and luxurious guest houses. For breakfast, lunch, or dinner, sensational seaside dining is a specialty at The King and Prince. You can enjoy Southern coastal cuisine while taking in the breathtaking views at the Island’s only ocean front settings, which include The King’s Tavern, Ocean Terrace Grille, and The Atrium Cafe. And mark my words do not leave without trying the Georgia shrimp!
The vibe of the resort in true Southern fashion is very laid back. Many people go there just for the simple pleasures of walking on the beach or exploring in the Pier Village, where there are several shops, restaurants and a fishing pier. However, the resort is surrounded by many fun and interesting recreational activities, historic sites, and attractions that offer something for everyone. The hotel has a dedicated activities page and here are a few of the interesting activities they have to offer:
I would recommend the Shrimp Boat tour. Where else can you play Forrest Gump for the day and actually catch and eat your own shrimp!
Do you play golf? Owned and operated by The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort, the award-winning course is renowned for its challenging layout surrounded by forests, vast salt marshes, dramatic island holes, and a vast lake characteristic of the 9th hole, overlooked by a comfortable clubhouse. With its welcoming clubhouse and exceptional staff, the King and Prince Golf Course is the perfect location for your next coastal Georgia golf vacation.
The hotel also has a tennis court, exercise room, and six pools! Looking to just kick back? The you must visit the Royal Treatment Cottage. The setting is a historic beach cottage on the resort grounds just steps from the sands and seabreezes of the Atlantic. Here an intimate seaside retreat has been created where the utmost attention is given to experiences that soothe and treatments that rejuvenate.
The focus at The Royal Treatment Cottage is exclusively on massage therapies and treatments, both traditional and customized, that melt away tension, aches, and pains. Click for a complete listing of services.
