Nigel Barker’s A Sealed Fate Opening

July 24th: Nigel Barker, world-renowned fashion photographer and judge on “America’s Next Top Model,” launched ‘A Sealed Fate?’ – a traveling exhibition of photographs that provides an intimate look at the short-lived lives of baby harp seals victimized by the annual commercial seal hunt. The exhibit was produced in collaboration with The Humane Society of the United States. 401 projects rolled out the white carpet for guests including Christian Siriano (Project Runway), Tatyana Ali (Fresh Prince of Bel Air), America’s next top Model alums Jaslene Gonzalez and Whitney Thompson. But where was Tyra? Nowhere to be found!
DJ Josh Madden spun beats, Chef Michael Wurster prepared colorful and teeny tiny interesting appetizers, including pea ravioli (Mo was afraid to eat it but it looked beautiful). There was a wintry theme in the all-white event space. In addition to the passed h’orderves, waitresses passed out ivory frozen yogurt popsicles by Yolato.
The gallery displayed photographs taken by Nigel Barker who opened Studio NB in 2006. Barker took these photographs earlier this year when he accompanied Wayne Pacelle, (President and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States) to eastern Canada to photograph the seals before and during the annual commercial seal hunt.
Now, I must interject and say that Nigel is the most perfect man who has ever walked the face of this earth. I couldn’t look directly at him because he was so gorgeous. Nigel, if you’re reading this, please marry Mo… and I know that you have a beautiful wife and all, but give Mo a shot! Even though Mo parties a lot and may need an AA sponsor soon… let’s be crazy and run away together. Or Mo will just continue to be that girl you see standing behind that tree in the morning when you go get your coffee in the morning.
On a serious note: As an animal lover who happens to have a cute teacup yorkshire terrier, I was appalled by what the documentary uncovered. Seal hunting is an off-season activity conducted by commercial fishermen from Canada’s East Coast. Canada’s commercial seal hunt is the world’s largest slaughter of marine mammals, with more than one million seals killed in the past three years. These seals are killed when they are babies and their fur is used for fashion! And most of the seal hunters use this as their supplemental income, which means that they aren’t living off of it.
The exhibit is open to the public: Friday, July 25 through Sunday, July 27. Nigel Barker is to host a series of one-hour tours and lectures 2:00 to 5:00 pm each day, and they will take place at 401 projects where all exhibition sales are remitted to the photographer’s charity of their choice. 401 projects also partners with charitable and not-for-profit organizations in raising funds and awareness, and in creating workshops and special programming.

I agree. I love how you drew attention to the event rather than yourself or the celebs.
